Tuesdays With Dorie: Granola Energy Bars

Short and sweet this week for Tuesdays with Dorie. It's Granola Energy Bars, they are super easy to throw together, and they are as tasty as you want to make them. I used dried cherries and also added about a half cup of bittersweet chocolate chips because, hey, why not?

The most intriguing thing for me about this recipe is the brown rice syrup as the sweetener and binder in the bars. It's not terribly sweet and also fairly neutrally flavored, so it really allows the rest of the ingredients to shine. I also loved that the oats are toasted; it's nice touch that gives the bars an extra nuance of flavor.

The cherry-chocolate combination looks and sounds delicious. The brown rice syrup was a first for me and I liked how it melded with the other ingredients.

That was a good way to sum up that brown rice syrup...a new ingredient for me. Your bars look delicious...okay, not the chocolate part, but the rest of it! ;-) I am not a lover of chocolate so don't mind me.

Chocolate and cherries -- yum! (My chocolate melted too; I think a lot of people's did!)

These bars a like a blank slate-you can mix up the additions and have a different treat each time. Next time, I may have to try cherries but I think cocoa nibs might be a better add in since they do not melt.
